In Christ Alone I Will Place My Confidence!
Philippians 3:1-11
· Chapter 1 – single mind (to live is Christ).
· Chapter 2 – submissive mind (others first).
· Chapter 3 – spiritual mind (vv. 1-11 – Paul’s past; vv. 12-16 – Paul’s present; vv. 17-21 – Paul’s future).
I. The joy of the Lord is our strength & safeguard – v. 1.
II. Salvation can only be attained through Christ alone – vv. 2-7.
A. Beware of false teachings – salvation = Christ + … - v. 2.
B. Our accomplishments and credentials do not help our salvation – vv. 3-7.
III. To know Christ is the most important pursuit in our lives – vv. 8-11.
A. Next to knowing Christ, all other pursuits in life are not worth dung – v. 8.
B. God’s righteousness can be enjoyed through Christ’s faithfulness – 9.
C. Knowing Christ stretches beyond our salvation – vv. 10-11
i. Knowing Him – personal and intimate friendship of walking with Christ, rather than blindly obeying a set of rules.
ii. Experiencing the power of His resurrection – power over sin and temptation.
iii. Sharing in His suffering – sanctification.
iv. Being like Him in His death – dying to sin.
v. Attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
Our confidence for salvation and godly living is to be placed in
Christ ALONE!
