21 Fellowship, SBC

Simon Goncharenko

Chapter 1 – single mind (to live is Christ).

Chapter 2 – submissive mind (others first).

Chapter 3 – spiritual mind (vv. 1-11 – Paul’s past; vv. 12-16 – Paul’s present; vv. 17-21 – Paul’s future).

Chapter 4 – secure mind.

I.                   It is good for believers, who are able, to demonstrate their concern in tangible ways for their fellow Christians undergoing difficulties – vv. 10, 14.

A.    It encourages the strugglers – v. 10.

B.     It is the right thing to do (for it was for this purpose that they are entrusted with God’s resources in the first place) – v. 14.

II.                We CAN be content in all circumstances – vv. 11-12.

If this is so, then what is contentment and where does it come from?

Paul will answer the first question in vv. 11-12 and the second in v. 13.

A.    Contentment is a disposition which is satisfied with the lot which has been assigned by God – v. 11.

(Contentment is a mindset which eliminates the perception of being “in need”)

B.     Contentment is a learned behavior – vv. 11-12.

C.     Contentment does not depend on circumstances or things – v. 12.

Definition: Contentment is a learned quality which eliminates the perception of being in need and does not depend on circumstances or things.

III.             The secret source of contentment lies outside the believer – v. 13.

Definition: Real contentment, common to believers only, is a learned quality which eliminates the perception of being in need and does not depend on circumstances or things because it comes from Jesus Christ.

A.    All things are possible for the believers through Christ’s strengthening!

We can be content in all circumstances because all things are possible in Christ!
