I.                   Restlessness characterizes life apart from the control of the Holy Spirit – vv. 1-3.

A.    Restlessness results in a lack of direction or misguided action – v.3.

II.                Obedience to Jesus brings abundant blessings (not always or necessarily in the material realm) – vv. 4-14.

A.    Many fish await those who obey Jesus immediately – vv. 4-6.

B.     Our obedience may look differently based on our personalities – vv. 7-8.

                                                              i.      Quick John identifies Jesus first

                                                            ii.      Eager Peter swims

iii.      The rest stay in the boat –

C.     Though allowing our participation for our benefit, Jesus does not need our help – vv. 9-14.

                                                              i.      The dinner was ready – v. 9.

ii.      Yet Jesus still invited the disciples to add their fish – v. 10.

iii.      Even their fish was His miraculous provision – v. 11.

iv.      If we obey, Jesus will always provide our bread and fish – vv. 12-14.

Restless is a life that is not controlled by the Holy Spirit; blessed is a life that obeys the Lord.
