John 5:1-9, 14

How to Handle Sickness

November 1, 2009

Simon Goncharenko

Our sickness will bring glory to God if we are willing to go along with His plan.

I.                   God’s ability to cure any sickness does not always dictate His choice to do so – vv. 1-6.

(Though Jesus is able to heal every one of us all the time, He will not always do that) – Joni Erickson Tada

A.    He is able to cure any sickness because He is God

B.     Because He is God and knows better than we do, He will not always heal us

II.                God’s plan for our sickness may conflict with our expectations – vv. 7-9, 14.

A.    His plan is always more comprehensive than our perspective – v. 7.

B.     His desire will always be to increase our faith in the process – v. 8.

C.     He will always supply the means for doing what He asks of us – v. 9.

D.    We must be ready to stop those sinful practices which may lie at the root of our sickness – v. 14.
