Do Not Rely On Your Reputation ALONE! (#5 - Sardis)
Revelation 3:1-6
Dr. Simon Goncharenko 21 Fellowship, SBC June 19, 2011
-
There is only so far that a church can go on reputation alone – v. 1.
- Jesus, the church’s architect always knows it’s true state.
-
A church that wants to be vibrant has to remain watchful – vv. 2-3.
- A vibrant church must be constantly alert.
- A church that abandons its fervor does not please God.
- A vibrant church must adjust its direction every once in a while.
- A church that refuses to be watchful may be extinguished.
-
Even when a church goes south it usually has a faithful remnant – vv. 4-6.
- These are the people who remain unstained.
-
These people will be rewarded for their faithfulness.
- They will commune with God.
- Their faithfulness will be made known in eternity.
- Their names will never be erased from the book of life.
- Their names will be declared before God the Father and His angels.
BIG IDEA
To stay vibrant a church must regularly evaluate its fidelity to its purpose and strive to be in sync with the Spirit’s direction.
