OUTLINE
If we really live for the Lord, opposition from the world will certainly come, though it will not overtake us, as long as we rely on the Holy Spirit.
I. Expect opposition in the world – vv. 1-4.
A. The warning will keep us from getting tripped up – vv. 1, 4.
B. A wide range of persecution is awaiting Christ’s followers in this world – v. 2.
C. The persecutors do this b/c they are not believers and think that they’re doing God a favor – v. 3.
II. Though harassed, we are never alone – vv. 5-7.
A. Beware of the tendency to become self-absorbed when in trial – vv. 5-6.
B. The Holy Spirit is our most valuable resource in trials – v.7.
