OUTLINE
I. The sad consequences of rejecting the truth – both by Pilate & and the Jews – 18:28-19:16.
A. Majoring on the minors – ceremonially clean while murdering an innocent man – the messed up moral compass of the Jewish leaders – 18:28-32, 19:15.
i. Catching a speck . . . – not getting ceremonially defiled by entering a Gentile area – 18:28.
ii. . . . While missing a camel – lying, false accusation, and murder – 18:29-32.
iii. Swearing allegiance to a pagan emperor while rejecting the true Son of David – 19:15.
B. Placing personal security & advance above the TRUTH - Pilate wonders about truth while staring Him in the face – 18:33-40.
i. Unexpected conclusion to interrogation – Pilate challenged with the truth – 18:33-19:16.
ii. Missed opportunity – Pilate squanders his moment of truth – vv. 38.
C. Finding no success apart from the truth (or lack of moral absolutes can never accomplish anything good) – Pilate – 18:39-19:16.
i. It results in questionable methods – 19:1-6.
ii. It produces fear & anxiety – 19:7-11.
iii. It makes one spineless and ineffective in all he does – 19:12-16.
II. Don’t miss your moment of truth!
A. Your eternity depends on it – future.
B. Your quality of life depends on it – present.
What we do with the TRUTH affects not only our life on earth but also eternal destiny.
