Outline

Jesus’ power over nature reminds us that he is able to see us through any storm in life.

I.                   The intensity of the storm can be overwhelming and yet serve as the perfect backdrop to Jesus’ magnificent deliverance – vv. 16-18.

Just look at the circumstances surrounding the disciples in this story:

-          They were tired to start with and now, after rowing most of the night, were truly exhausted

-          It was dark

-          They were out in the middle of the lake

-          Jesus was not with them

-          There was a strong wind blowing

-          The sea was getting rough

II.                The Lord always shows up at the right time – vv. 19-20.

a.       When we have gone as far as we can, He shows up – v. 19.

b.      His ability to deliver is not limited to natural means only – v. 19.

c.       His word will calm our nerves in the midst of the storm – v.20.

III.             Christ’s intervention in our times of trouble will always bring us to safety – v. 21.
